Disabled Access

Arrangements for access to the school for pupils with disabilities

Where necessary, additional adult support has been given to enable disabled children to join in activities with other pupils and to make appropriate progress in accordance with their IEP. Modifications to equipment and special learning aids are used with children with disabilities. The school aims to comply with the recent requirements relating to access and disability.

The completion of the new building in 2003 has gone some way in improving access but there remain significant areas of the school which are inaccessible for people in wheelchairs. The intention to modify the footpath leading to the foundation stage unit and the junior classrooms in the middle block to include ramps was not undertaken last year. This project remains on the active list of improvements required and will be looked at again this year.

An accessibility plan has been prepared by the head teacher and governors of the school.

Preventing disabled pupils from being treated less favourably than other pupils

  • The school has an Equal Opportunities policy, which is reviewed regularly.

  • All members of staff have access to this policy.

  • All staff ensure that there is equal access to, and participation in all aspects of school life for all members.

  • All staff endeavour to create an atmosphere in which stereotyping of disabled people and pupils is questioned openly, discussed and actively prevented.
